Dana Waider

Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Dana Waider, and I am asking for your support for District Committee for District 1B, representing the Motor Line, Box Line, Pre-Final 1, 2, and 3, and Paint. I have been a proud UAW member since 2011 and have nearly 15 years of service at Flint Assembly. I am a fourth-generation union member, continuing a long family tradition of solidarity and commitment to the labor movement.

Throughout my time in the plant, I have been actively involved in union activities and representation. I was a member of the 2019 Strike Committee and served on the Recreation Committee from 2019 through 2021. Additionally, I held the position of Alternate Committee member between 2020 and 2023, and since 2023, I have been serving as District Committee. I am proud to be the first female elected to a district committee position at Local 598. These roles have given me valuable experience advocating for members and understanding the challenges workers face every day.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Labor Studies from Indiana University and am pursuing a Master’s degree in Union Leadership at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have also completed a Contract Language Certificate from the University of Michigan and certifications in Steward and Committeeperson Training and Grievance Handling. In addition, I have attended UAW Bargaining Boot Camp and Contract Enforcement Boot Camp at Black Lake, along with coursework through the Labor Arbitration Institute focused on labor law and arbitration.

The issues I care about most are protecting members from unfair treatment and arbitrary discipline while ensuring every worker is treated with dignity and respect. Outside the plant, I am a small business owner and remain committed to serving the community.

I believe strong representation requires knowledge, dedication, and the courage to stand up for what is right. If elected, I will continue to fight for fairness, accountability, and the rights of every member in District 1B.
