Brothers and Sisters,
My name is Joanna Batson-Escamilla, and I am asking for your support for election as Alternate Committee for District 5A, representing Trim South (IP Line, Door Line, Kit Cells) and Body. I have been a proud UAW member since January 2007, with an official seniority date of October 15, 2007, and have worked at Flint Truck Assembly since May 2011.
I am a second-generation UAW member. My father worked as a tinsmith at Chevy in the Hole for 34 years, and union values of solidarity, hard work, and standing up for one another have guided me throughout my career. Today, my family’s UAW legacy continues, as my son is also a member of Local 598.
Since 2019, I have had the honor of serving as Alternate Committee Person for District 5A, working daily to represent members and address workplace concerns. During that time, I have fought to ensure the contract is enforced fairly and that members receive the representation they deserve.
I have completed numerous union education programs, including Contract Enforcement Boot Camp and Bargaining Boot Camp at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center at Black Lake, Women in Leadership Conference training, grievance handling courses, and additional programs focused on contract knowledge and workplace advocacy. This training has strengthened my ability to hold management accountable and defend our members’ rights.
The issues I care most about on the shop floor are ensuring the contract is followed correctly and that pay issues are resolved promptly and fairly. Coworkers describe me as honest, hardworking, compassionate, and tenacious — qualities I bring to representing every member.
Our union is strongest when united. If elected, I will work daily for fairness, accountability, and respect for District 5A members.
Thank you for your consideration and your support. In Solidarity, Joanna Batson-Escamilla
