Kevin "Smiley" Smiley

Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Kevin Smiley, and I am asking for your support for election as District Committee Representative for District 2C. I have been a proud UAW member since 2007 and have been part of this plant since May 2011. I come from a union family background, as my grandparents were union members, and the importance of solidarity and worker representation has always been a part of my life.

I previously served as an Alternate Committee Representative from 2019 to 2023 and have served as District Committee Representative since 2023. In these roles, I have worked to represent members fairly, address workplace concerns, and ensure that management is held accountable to the contract.

I have completed extensive union education and leadership training, including programs at the UAW Leadership Training Institute and Black Lake. My training includes the Grievance Handler Course, Standing Committees Class, Weingarten Rights training, Union Meeting Engagement courses, and Labor Law and Arbitration. This training has strengthened my ability to advocate effectively for members and protect their rights on the shop floor.

The issues I care most about are holding management accountable to the contract and making sure every member’s rights are protected. Coworkers describe me as caring, fair, understanding, self-driven, and determined — qualities I bring to my role every day.

Outside of work, I am active in the community through organizations such as Faithway Christian School, where I have coached youth basketball, as well as volunteering with Toys for Tots, United Way, Old Newsboys, and other charitable efforts. I believe community involvement reflects the same values of service and solidarity that define our union.

In my personal time, I enjoy golfing and playing poker, but my primary focus remains serving the membership and strengthening our union.

If elected, I will continue to represent District 2C with honesty, dedication, and accountability, ensuring that every member is treated fairly and that our contract is fully enforced.
